What you need to do
Demonstrate his interest, practice and proficiency in some form of TWO of the following:
- Graphic art — sketching, painting, etching, wood-cuts, lino-cuts, etc.
- Decorative work — wallpaper design, printed or woven fabrics, posters, book jackets, wrought iron etc.
- Plastic art — modeling in clay, plasticine, etc. Designing and making pottery, etc.
- Carving — wood, stone, or semi-permanent material, e.g. soap.
- Leather — Roman, Gill Scan, Script etc.
In no case should the work be a copy or tracing, and he must be prepared to state on his Scout honour that the work is entirely by his own hand.
- Know the name and something of the work of at least some famous exponents of the art he has chosen.
- In the presence of the examiner, make a sketch of some project, or group of objects, or design selected by him, relating to the subject chosen in requirement 1.
- Know a few of the Maldivian artists and masterpieces of Maldivian art work.
- Know how Maldivians prepare for lacquer work.
Demonstrate how designs are made on dhonis and baththeli, especially on the steering and forward.
- Paint or draw an illustration of a scene from a story selected by the examiner.
- The examiner will give a scene from a camp; from the description, paint or draw it.
- Paint or draw a person from life or an object before you.
- Paint or draw a landscape set by or known to the examiner.
Show the examiner a selection of your recent work (a minimum of 10 to be included) and discuss them with the examiner with particular reference to:
- Any necessary preparation of media and materials.
- Opportunity of further study of the art.
- Examples of masters which he has seen or books which he has studied, or his opinions of them.
