Practical repairs around the house: pick six jobs such as glazing, plastering, hanging a door, mixing concrete or fixing furniture.

What you need to do

Demonstrate six of the following, the choice to be made by you:

  1. Renew a sash cord, or replace a casement window frame and hang it.
  2. Glaze windows, both in wood and iron frames.
  3. Help to paint and paper a room.
  4. Take precautions to prevent frozen pipes in a dwelling house.
  5. Repair defective plastering.
  6. Re-hang a door and repair door furniture, including handles, locks and so on.
  7. Effect minor repairs to furniture, such as broken castors and minor upholstery repairs.
  8. Help to lay a pavement.
  9. Put a neat patch on a garment.
  10. Clean and polish a car.
  11. Repair a gate or fence.
  12. Mix concrete and effect simple repairs with it.
  13. Repair a children's toy.
  14. Lay linoleum.
  15. Replace a tap washer.
  16. Oil and adjust a lawn mower.
  17. The immediate steps to be taken in the case of a burst water pipe.
