The 14th Malé Scout Group (Thaajuddeen School Scout Group) and the 2nd Vaavu Scout Group came together from 22 to 25 August 2026 to hold Veshi Un'genema 9, the group's annual camp, in V. Felidhoo.

Veshi Un'genema has been held on a different island each year. The first eight editions took place at other islands, and this ninth edition was the first to be held in Vaavu Atoll. The camp was organised jointly by the two groups and brought together 153 Cub Scouts and Scouts. They were led by 14 leaders under Camp Chief SL Mohamed Naseer, with seven Rovers serving as the service team.

Four days of learning by doing

Following the camp theme, Guardians of the Atolls, the programme focused on practical skills that young people can carry back to their own islands. Participants took part in first aid, chair making and compass sessions, and prepared meals together in the Get-Together Cooking activity, which was held at the homes of Felidhoo students. The younger Cub Scouts competed in the Cub Scout Olympics, while the Scouts took on the Scout Water Olympics, with support from the Police and Coast Guard. Participants also went island hopping and joined a treasure hunt that finished with a handover to the Felidhoo Council. Evenings were spent around the campfire.

Felidhoo School hosted the camp, and the island's community and council were closely involved throughout.

A camp closing with recognition

The camp ended with a closing ceremony where participation certificates and appreciation certificates were presented, sponsors were recognised, and awards were given to the winning patrols and individuals.

Words from the island

Camps like this help build confidence, teamwork and adaptability, and they prepare young people to step out into society. I am very happy to see two scout groups working together and delivering such a great camp.

Thank you

The organisers thank the V. Felidhoo Island Council, Felidhoo School and the families of Felidhoo who opened their homes, along with the Police, the Coast Guard, the parents who supported the camp, and all sponsors. Special thanks go to the leaders and Rovers whose planning and effort made the four days possible.

For the 153 young people who attended, Veshi Un'genema 9 was a chance to learn new skills, work as a team and take a little more responsibility for the place they call home.
